Definitions

AI System

We use the OECD definition of an 'AI system':

A machine-based system that, for explicit or implicit objectives, infers from the input it receives, how to generate outputs such as predictions, content and recommendations, or decisions that can influence physical or virtual environments. Different AI systems vary in their levels of autonomy and adaptiveness after deployment

Scope

This AI usage notice covers all usage of AI systems across all of our business activities.

Approach

We are committed to trustworthy use of AI systems.

We recognise the potential benefits that AI systems can bring to our activities, including reductions in costs and increases in quality. We also recognise that potential harms that AI system can bring to our activities, including reductions in accountability and increases in supply chain complexity.

We believe our usage of AI systems provides valuable first-hand experience and understanding that can inform our products and services. AI systems are likely to play an increasing role in the design, development and evaluation of apps and app development practices. Through carefully considered usage of AI systems to support our own activities, we believe that we can more clearly understand, articulate and solve the potential problems that these systems may pose for privacy protection.

We continue to consider the potential benefits and potential harms from the use of AI systems for our activities. We will stop use of an AI system for a given activity should we believe that the potential harms outweigh potential benefits.

We will always strive to act with honesty, competence and integrity in our usage of AI systems. We hope that this notice provides clear and concise information to underpin our claims and commitments.

We use the AI systems defined above to support the following activities:

Engineering, including generation of:
- Prototypes, mockups and wireframes for applications and features
- Automated test cases for modules and components
- Documentation for modules and components
- Design and implementation options for software modules and components
Marketing, including generation of:
- Market research and summaries
- Image assets for the company, products and services
- Indicative structures and presentations for published content

Human Oversight

Where AI systems are used to support our activities, any outputs are reviewed and approved by a human prior to their usage. Review and approval decisions consider whether the outputs are consistent with correctness and quality expectations.

Privacy and Security

We do not currently use AI systems to process personal data that you provide to us. For more information on how we process your personal data, see our Privacy Notice.

We have opted out of the use of data that we provide to Claude and Claude Code for model improvement.

Amendments

Changes may be made to this AI usage notice from time to time. Please ensure that you check this notice regularly to ensure that you are aware of any changes to our use of AI systems.
